The Notebook of Littleton Purnell Franklin was the personal logbook of Littleton P. Franklin, concerning his interests in land around his farm near Berlin. The second item is an index of names compiled by Mary Humphreys in 1994, consisting of names mentioned in Franklin’s diary.
Littleton Purnell Franklin was born in 1831 in Berlin, Maryland. As a young man, he attended Yale College with the intention of working as a lawyer in Snow Hill – however, this never happened. Due to poor health, Littleton P. Franklin returned to the family farm, and served as a politician and farmer. He was a delegate at the 1867 ratification of the Constitution of Maryland, and served as a Maryland State Senator. He died at age 58 of typhoid fever.
This collection documents the life, real estate interests, and personal connections of Littleton Purnell Franklin.
