Abstract

The 1892 Snow Hill Town Account Book collection consists of a logbook from 1892 consisting of various fees, rents, and bills collected from the citizens of Snow Hill. Also included are a typewritten list of the names of prominent citizens and a letter from Carmen D. Valentino, the owner of the rare book store where the account book was purchased from.

Administrative History / Biographical Note

Snow Hill, Maryland was founded in 1686, and became a port of entry in 1694. Following the division of Somerset County, the city became the county seat of the new Worcester County in 1742. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, a series of fires devastated Snow Hill, but the town was rebuilt, and over 80% of the city is registered as a historic district.

This collection documents the payments of various citizens to the town of Snow Hill in the year 1892.

Series I: Books: The account book for the town of Snow Hill.

Series II: Letters: A receipt of purchase from Carmen D. Valentino of Philadelphia, PA.
